Abstract :
Textile printing design is the decoration of constructed textile surface by arrangment of shape and colours. Apart from textiles, textile printing design is open to the cooperation with other fields in terms of colour and shape. Besides influencing textile printing designs with their art works, the leading artists of the 20th century have given a direction to this field with their designs. In the period that began with the question of how mass production should be made up after the Industrial Revolution, William Morris’ pioneering concept of art-crafting combined with a developing ‘design’ concept. In the 1930’s, Bauhaus developed an artistic craftsmanship with the definition of ‘applied arts’ that would be the base for the concept of ‘designer’ which would be formed in the 1950’s, after World War II. Throughout the period, artists, architects and engineers have shaped both the design concept and the design language in the design world. Artists were able to reach large quantities with textile designs used in mass production in economical conditions where it was not possible to enter each home with their works. In this study, the changing plastic language and aesthetic understanding of the 20th century were examined in the context of art-design interaction, which consists of artist designs that convey creativity to textile print design. Directive impression has been determinative for the selection of designs and artists that reflect the character of the period. The importance and indispensability of the dialogue between art-design emerges in the selected works which have been choosen the historical period. This dialogue, which exemplified by the 20th century axis, has a primary goal to lead designers to create a world that will develop their creativity.
