Abstract :
The Writing is an important and effective communication tool for self-expression of the people and society. The Written documents are the source of the illuminating the history as well as a work of art. They are indispensable treasure for the history of humanity in terms of documentary, cultural and aesthetic. Manuscripts, which are a cultural heritage, not only it contains information of the written era and the geography of its time, but also it is the source of the science and art. Therefore the factors like geographic location, cultural background, and the education of the artist created diversity in the manuscripts, which was produced in Europe and Ottoman. When we look at the manuscripts in the contemporary perspectives, it is possible to say that they are the products of graphic design. In spite of some differences, Manuscript books contain design elements like illustration, miniatures and writing. In this study, two manuscript books were selected from 15^th century as a graphic design product. These books are called as Hours of Catherine of Cleves and Kitabü’l Cerrahiyet-ül Haniyye of Şerafeddin Sabuncuoğlu. Manuscripts were compared and analyzed in terms of titles, page numbers, margins, miniature/illustration, font, ornaments and design factors, in this research.
