Title Of Article :
The effect of magnetic field on the germination and seedling growth of the seeds of lemon balm
Abstract :
The aim of this research is to determine the effects of magnetic field (MF) on lemon balm (Melissa officinalis L.). The seeds were exposed to MF strengths in the range of 3.8-4.8 mT on the movable ground with the velocity of 1m/sec. The seeds were exposed to MF of different strengths (1 time, 3 times, 9 times and 15 times). The control and experimental groups were germinated at optimum conditions in the climate chamber and in an incubator (25 °C). Germination percentage and root length were measured in order to determine optimum MF strengths at 24th, 48th, 72nd, 96th and 120th hours. The seedling heights of the seeds exposed to MF were determined at the 30th day. As a result, the germination percentages were higher in the MF applications than that in the control group at 72nd and 96th hours. The highest root length (8,4 cm) was measured from 1 time MF application. The seedling heights were found to be lower in 1, 3, 9 and 15 times MF applications than in the control group.
