Abstract :
Renaissance and the ancient laws that Renaissance was based upon became the basis of academic art education and has come up the present time having been shaped throughout centuries. Although it is usually mentioned that 19th century is the period that we first encountered such laws, it is also possible to mention that our encounter with European art goes back to 15th century. At the ends of the 15th century, Fatih Sultan Mehmet invited western artists to the Ottoman Empire and the other sultans coming after him supported and continued this devolopment. After a short time, artists from Ottoman empire began to go abroad, too. Between the academies of artists gone National Fıne Arts School of Paris also. Then, with the school that affect the Sanayi-i Nefise School art education has an important place in our history. As a consequent of the talented young exchange, the lack of art education in the Ottoman Empire was noticed and Sanayi-i Nefise Mektebi (School of Fine Arts) was founded by Osman Hamdi. Sanayi-i Nefise Mektebi facilitated the students, who were having art education in Turkey, going Europe to have painting education. After completed their education, the artists retumed home and not only began to work as teachers at schools in Turkey but also became the leader of new movements they learnt in Europe and passed their knowledge to their colleagues.
