HISTORY LESSON IN RUSHDIYE MEKTEBS

As reformation movements extended to all areas, it showed itself on education area in the Ottoman Empire in XVIII. and XIX. centuries. After Hendesehâne, Mühendishâne-i Bahrî-i and Berrî-i Humayun were opened; it was the time to found rüshdiye mektebs. Mekteb-i Maârif-i Adli, the first rüshdiye mekteb was opened in 1839 and after that rüshdiye mekteb spread on countrywide. As they entered into education system, their lessons and syllabuses became the issues on which the most frequent changes were made. History, one of these lessons, would get its share from these changes and this matter would continue until they were closed.
