    A German Missionary Factory Building at Urfa “Basmahane”

  • Abstract
    Since 19th century, missionary activities in Urfa, which entered under Ottoman’s rule in 1517, have intensified. Many educational institutions, orphanages and workplaces are opened for non-Muslims by French, German and American missionaries in the city. The ones from these institutions reaches to present day, opened by Germans in 1897, a workplace in which carpet and various weaving are produced is important in terms of both reflecting architectural features of its time and informing about the missionary activities in the city. Twostoried manufacturing plant consists of the department where threads are produced, the one in which those threads are colored and the place of weaving looms.
