    Views of Instrument Teachers on Classroom Practices (Present Situation and Future Prospects)

  • Abstract
    There are several studies on instrument teaching where a number of researchers tried to determine and discuss the problems in the field and offer solutions for these problems. In the study, it was aimed to determine the views of instrument teachers related to “class practices” by investigating those about present and desired situations in music education departments of education faculties. Population of the study is the music instrument teachers working at music education departments at all Turkish universities while sample includes 94 instrument teachers who were available and participated in the study. A scanning model is preferred to describe the views on present situation in the study. As the result of the study, instrument teachers presenting their views in 12 of 16 questions in the study stated that class practices in instrument education of music education departments in Turkey are at desired level or very close to it. In the remaining four questions, their views on present situation and future prospects are different from one another. In the light of the views, results were evaluated and discussed.
