Abstract :
This study aims to analyze the dichotomies between history and memory, monument and counter-monument, fiction and reality, mediatic and anti-mediatic through the representations of miner’s strike happened in the United Kingdom in 80’s. Focusing Jeremy Deller’s re-enactment of “The Battle of Orgrave”, the study follows a practice that transforms public into sculpture, monument into remembering. In this study, the historical events are evaluated within mediatic and anti-mediated ways of thinking while collocating fiction and reality, past and present. In that sense, this article analyses an alternative to the monumental thought that creates subjects and to the “voyeuristic” gaze of the media in which the spectator engages in the writing of history.
