For the development and proliferation of these works, it is important to ensure the artists/the authors and their works by preserving their rights. In the process starting from the 15^th century when printing was invented to the present, the rights of authors has been an issue; contracts has been made and laws has been introduced in certain periods to protect the rights of authors. In the digital era which started with the developing technology, copying methods have increased, while the measures taken have not been able to completely prevent unauthorized copying. The aim of the study was to determine the approaches of music and art teacher candidates in the departments of fine arts education. This research is thought to be important in terms of creating awareness in future artist-teacher candidates and offering an insight for the new studies about illegal copying. The questionnaire prepared by Naralan and Özdemir was used in the study. The questions included in the survey were the total of 27 questions, 12 of which included illegal music acquisition, 7 of them illegal copying, 8 of them using illegal computer software and copying. In the research, the survey was conducted with a total of 125 people from Marmara University Atatürk Faculty of Education Departments of Fine Arts; 53 of them from the department of music education, and 72 of them from the department of art education. In the survey, students opinions about unauthorized copying were taken and the results were analyzed. As a result of the research, it has been understood that the participants agree on the fact that unauthorized copying is mostly a crime and also a moral issue. However, even though they are teachers and artist candidates in the field of art, the results indicate that they have been copying without authorization. It is also understood from the answers that they do not have enough information about the supervision and criminal responsibility of this illegal act.
