Abstract :
İt is discussed that ; why religion course takes place in school , how it provides contribution togeneral objectives of instruction . The school can not ignore to afford the values of the communityand have to teach those values. Religion is one of the most important value. The teaching of religion started with the first people and continues in a variety of ways and in different places . Religion classes takes place in schools since Ottoman Empire- except for a short period of time- in different names. Every national educational system aims to educate a type of people and a training policy which affected from values. We find the Turkish national education philosophy in Law Faculty Union. With this regulation, education is planned at the control of a single center ,and also aimed at cultivating generations which has national, spiritual, moral, humanitarian and cultural values. The task of education is to meet all the needs of accurate and balanced manner in jurisprudence. True religious knowledge is a right and need for individuals. Teaching of religion contributes socializing of people and provides readyness who participate religious activities also give evaluation capability who refuse to participate religious activities. One of the tasks of education is to transfer material and spiritual culture on young people. In today s world recognising each other s faith and values has become a need for people. The 24. item of 1982 Constitution, international treaties , Law Faculty Union and decisions of the European Union creates the legal foundations of the religion teaching. Each country has a different understanding of secularism. As a result of a nearly 80-year experience , religion education shaped and meet the expectation level in our country. Most of the European countries has religion classes in schools. Despite the different applications in the EU the Religion Course based in general education and the pedagogical aspects . In our article we tried to discuss the entity of Religion Course in schools , contribution to the realization of the common objectives of Religion Course and does this contribution need be pointed out. And also we have tried to put forward individual historical, cultural, philosophical ,legal and international foundations of Religion Course. we have discussed the Religion Education within the framework of the principle of secularism and European countries applications.
