    THE STUDY OF THE TURKISH COURSEBOOK OF GRADE 7 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN TERMS OF LANGUAGE-RELATED CULTURAL ELEMENTS

  • Abstract
    elements are included and how they are conveyed to students in the Turkish course book of grade 7 elementary school, The Ministry of Education Publications. The studied Turkish course book forms the population of this study. In this research the whole population was evaluated, sampling method was not taken into consideration. In this study, the list of language-related cultural elements was formed by making use of literature and getting expert opinion and as the Turkish course book was studied, this list was reformed. Moreover, when met a element which was not included in the list before, it was added to the list. The Turkish course book was studied according to this language-related cultural elements list. The language-related cultural elements which are included in this book and which make up the research sample were determined by the researcher by making a card index. As a result of this study it was established that in this course book language-related cultural elements such as idioms (f=198), metaphorical expressions (f=140), proverbs (f=2), aphorisms (f=16), accent features (f=5), reiterative (f=110) and reflections (f=9) were all included. It was noticed that these language-related cultural elements were sought to be conveyed to the learners through texts and pictures.
