Abstract :
The purpose of the present study is first to evaluate the general motivation of the students for learning science and then separately look at their motivation for conducting research, exhibiting a performance, communication, working in cooperation, and participation. The study group consists of totally 651 students attending 6th, 7th, and 8th grades of 11 elementary schools in Aksaray City in 2008-2009 school year. As a data collection instrument, the study employed the “Motivation Scale for Science Learning” developed by Dede and Yaman (2008). In the analyses of the data, descriptive analyses and Pearson correlation analysis were used. At the end of the study, it was found that the students have high level of motivation for conducting research, exhibiting a performance, communication, working in cooperation and participation. Moreover, it was found that there is a positive correlation between the motivation for science learning in general and its factors and among the factors themselves.
