AN EVALUATION OF DRAMA ORIENTED MATHEMATICS TEACHING STUDIES IN TURKEY
Abstract :
In this study, answer to the question “What is the place of drama, dramatization and creative drama in mathematics Education in Turkey” is sought by reviewing literature. In the light of related literature the importance of drama, dramatization and creative drama in teaching and specifically the research on creative drama in mathematics education in Turkey is examined. Mathematics is difficult for students due to the difficulties in learning abstract concepts. This difficulty can be lessened or removed by concretizing the situation or by using concrete objects in teaching mathematical concepts. Drama, dramatization and creative drama stays as a suitable choice in the process of concretizing or using concrete objects by making the individual more active, by activating his/her body, emotions and sensory organs. Thus, since 1900s using creative drama in teaching and learning has been increased every passing day. The consequences of such a situation are clear for mathematics education.
