Abstract :
In general, Turkish is thought via texts. In this respect, texts, which are one of the means in Turkish education, are to be chosen according to educational objectives as well. Especially story texts are suitable to be used as means to teach attitudes, values and behaviors. Ömer Seyfeddin stories as works of children’s literature can be used as texts of means. This study examined values in Ömer Seyfeddin stories and their use in Turkish education was discussed. In this study, “attaching importance to the unity of family, being fair, independence, peace, freedom, being scientific and hardworking, cooperation, sensitiveness, honesty, having aesthetic values, tolerance, hospitality, attaching importance to being healthy, respect, love, responsibility, being clean, patriotism, benevolence” were taken as basis. In this study, which was carried out in accordance with qualitative research paradigm, document analysis method was used. The universe of the study is composed of all stories by Ömer Seyfeddin and the sample is composed of 35 randomly chosen stories. In this study, values in Ömer Seyfeddin stories were determined, and it was seen that stories examined are rich in terms of the values studied.
