Abstract :
The subject of this research is the examination of both guidance practices of “Big Brothers and Big Sisters” organization which/that has nonprofit social service activities for the benefit of children at risk group in USA and socializing practices of “Ahi” organization that is a historical actor in Turkey. The sub-topic of this research is how university students or voluntary adults will guide school-aged students, who are in low income families or at risk group, “one-on-one and voluntary support”. In addition to this, how this guidance can be organized. This research are very important not only for increasing social service works at struggle againts poverty but also for fortifying family and children who are at risk group. Out of school guidance activities for low income groups must be known because these activities are very lack, even there is no in Turkey. Results of this research are very significant to create new policies about low income people. We used observation findings and literature of our “Effective Guidance Project” in Elazığ in Turkey for this study.
