THE EFFECT OF TELEVISION SERIES ON HISTORY AWARENESS “EXAMPLE OF MAGNIFICIENT CENTURY SERIES”

In this study, the effects of television series on the history awareness (example of Magnificent Century) have been investigated. A quantitative research method was used and the working group of this investigation consisted of 8th class students of four secondary schools located in the central district of the province of Bartın. A total of 227 students consisted of 53.7% schoolgirl and 46.3% schoolboy participated in the present research. Initially, we examined the literature and the item pool was created in order to create questionnaire. A study entitled “A Survey on the History Awareness of the Students (Undergraduate) of the Department of Social Studies Education” prepared by Gökkaya (2001) was used in the creation of the item pool. As a result, the most enjoyed presentations after the historical places was seen as historical films, the confidence of the students to historical films, on the other hand, has been found to be more. However, this series does not express a positive meaning for the students, and also it was mentioned by students that the Ottoman Empire and Kanuni Sultan Suleyman are not reflected well enough.
