Abstract :
The aim of this study is to evaluate teachers’, students’ and parents’ views on cursive italic handwriting practices in primary and secondary schools. In order to determine teachers’, students’ and parents’ views Teacher Interview Form, Student Interview Form and Parents Interview Form were used. For the validity of measurement instruments, review of literature and punditry were consulted. In the process of analyzing the data obtained from the interview forms, compliance between encoders were examined. According to the results of research while primary school teachers often use cursive italic handwriting on the board, teachers of Turkish prefer to use upright basic writing. It was determined that there is no consensus among teachers on the font that should be used in textbooks and teaching tools and parents stated a consensus that upright writing should be used. On the role of parents in teaching cursive italic handwriting teachers stated that parents teach it wrongly because they do not know this writing themselves and these mistakes cannot be corrected. Furthermore, it was found that there is not a consensus among teachers if it is necessary to continue with the cursive italic handwriting practices in primary schools or not.
