Abstract :
AbstractThe main problem to teach grammar in Turkey is practice. Not changing themethod while teaching subjects and conveying grammar through inflexible ways cause individuals to have negative attitudes against the language. Educators should have comprehensive knowledge of modern methods and techniques to let their students explore knowledge by themselves without teaching it directly. Methods and techniques to be used for teaching grammar are quite important for student-teacher interaction, attracting students’ attention, being appropriate for students’ levels and making the lessons more interesting. Meaning is the indispensable key of grammar. Various activities are needed for students’ significant learning. Concept maps are suitable activities for grammar teaching since they are easy to prepare and to apply. Especially, they give student the opportunity to learn effectively and to revise the knowledge. They help students interpret the visual and consider hierarchical order of the information as a whole. In this study, the relationship of concept maps with grammar teaching and how they can be applied in education environments.
