Abstract :
The objective of this study is to assess and discuss the attitudes and opinions of prospective Turkish teachers regarding computer use. The study universe is comprised of the students of the Department of Turkish Education, Ataturk University, while the study sampling is comprised of 167 prospective teachers, who study at the said department. The study employs a mixed methodology, in which quantitative methods are used in combination with qualitative methods. The quantitative data, into which the study taps, are cited from the “Attitude Scale Regarding Computer Use”, which was developed by BINDAK and CELIK (2006, and the qualitative data were derived through the “Form for Establishment of Opinions Regarding Computer Use”, developed by the researcher. The percentage, frequency, arithmetic mean test, LSD test and ANOVA tests were employed for the analysis of the quantitative data, while the content analysis test was employed for that of the qualitative data.It was established as a consequence of the study that the prospective teachers with longer periods of computer use develop a positive attitude toward computer use, and that, even though prospective teachers generally consider computer use practical and handy, a certain portion of the same yet have difficulties in using simple programs.
