Abstract :
Some peoples have shined out throughout history with their skills in certain fields such as art, trade, literature, science or art of war. Turks have drawn attention with their military abilities and the states they have founded. That is why the Turkish military has been the first institution to be imitated within the culture of steppe. In this interaction, China and Persia which had fought Turks were the first known examples. While states defeated by steppe armies were reforming their militaries, they employed Turkish soldiers as fighters in their armies. In history, it is known that Turks have taken place in the armies of China, Byzantine, Sassanian, Umayyad, and Abbasid states etc. This has been explained by some Western historians generally with the sedentary culture thattried to buy and utilize the nomads who wanted to capture booty and their warrior qualities. However, this opinion fails to explain all the relationships. Actually, Turks have participated in foreign armies under the conditions such as military alliance, residence in an autonomous region, paid enlistment, being a prisoner of war or asylum. Under such conditions, Turks of various members of the Turkish people and the states such as Hun, Kushan, White Hun-Hephthalite, Avar, Sabir, Khazar, and Göktürks served in the Sassanian armies. By this means, they had impact on the domestic and foreign politics of Sassanians and affected them in the field of military. In addition, Arabs had the opportunity to recognize Turks in the Sassanian armies before and after the birth of Islam.
