Title Of Article :
EXAMINATION OF THE VALIDITY AND THE RELIABILITY OF PHYSICS SELF-EFFICACY SCALE
Abstract :
In the last three decades, students’ self-efficacy perception has drawn the attention of many researchers in the world. The purpose of this study is twofold: a) adopt the Science Learning Self-efficacy Scale, which was developed by Lin and Tsai [International Journal of Science and Mathematics Education, 11(6), 1275-1301 (2013)], into physics, and b) to examine its validity and reliability. A total of 193 science pre-service teacher students (74 boys and 119 girls) participated in the study. Once the initial exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was run, one item was dropped. The analysis revealed that the five dimensions of Science Learning Self-efficacy Scale were valid and reliable. The five factors explained a total of 60.1% variance. Reliability analysis revealed that Cronbach alpha value for all dimensions were from 0.74 to 0.89, which were in acceptable range. Also, the Cronbach Alpha value for all items was 0.94. The implications and future direction were discussed.
