Abstract :
In this research,the cultural perceptions of primary education. Candidate teachers are tried to be analysed as individualistic and collectivistic. This study is planned as discriptive based on quantitative research method. In this research, Individualism-Collectivism Scale, adapted by Wasti (2003), was used. Individualism and Collectivism scale internal consistency coefficient is .82, internal consistency coefficient pertaining to the sub-factors are determined for horizontal collectivism is .68, for horizontal individualism is .72, for vertical collectivism is .64, for vertical individualism is .70. Sampling of this research consists of 303. Candidate teachers studying in departments of Social Studies, School Teaching, Science and Maths, in Primary Education department, in Erzincan University. At the result of the acquired datas’ analysis, it’s concluded that candidate teachers’ vertical collectivism and horizontal individualism marks were high. When the literature is reviewed, it’s seen that Turkey has a horizontal collectivistic culture. Depending on these results, it’s possible to say that Turkey is in a state of flux from traditionalist culture mentality to individualistic culture mentality. It may be stated that,these kinds of changes are usually seen in countries where the culture becomes complex. It can be said so as the level of cultural complexity increases, individualistic tendency also increases.
