Abstract :
Teaching language is possibleby improving the four language skills such as listening, speaking, reading and writing. In this sense, enough importance should be given to each skill and activities related to the skill should be done. While learning a foreign language, making mistakes at reading is probable for beginners. However, such mistakes should be corrected as soon as possible. With this study, it is aimed to determine the oral reading mistakes of the Turkmen students learning our language and to find solutions for these mistakes. In this work, nine Turkmen students studying in Aksaray University are given a text and recorded their reading in order to identify their mistakes of oral reading. These records are listened by researchers and the mistakes are identified by analyzing the content. These mistakes have been gathered under the topics such as syncopation, added reading, misusage of sound and resemblance in reading. The reading mistakes of each subject are displayed on the charts. According to the chart, with the rate of 50,9%, the most common mistake is the misusage of the letters and all of the participants have done this mistake. With the rate of 17,6%, added reading comes the second and it is seen that 88,8% of the participantsv has done this mistake. With the rate of 12% syncopation mistake is in the third rank and 88,8% of the participants has done this mistake. 33,3% of the participants has done resemblance reading mistake and this is the least common mistake with the rate of 6,49%.
