Abstract :

This study aims to reveal the vocabulary and word frequency distribution of students writtenexpression skills. Thus, the basic vocabulary of the students can be revealed and the reflection status of these words to the written expression skills may be determined. This may contribute to the development of the learner s literary skills in written expression. It was participated sixty students including 6th, 7th and 8th grade students in this descriptive study. The data of the study were obtained from the composition of the students with an open-ended question developed by the researchers. Content analysis was used to analyze the data obtained from the students. This analysis was performed through the Cibakaya 2.3 directory program. As a result, in this study, it was determined that when the vocabulary and word frequencies in the written expressions of the students at the 6th, 7th and 8th grade levels were examined, they were not sufficient in terms of variety and abstract vocabulary. This can lead to the negative effects of the quality of the students understanding and explaining skills, their ability to express their emotions and thoughts in an effective manner, and the negativity in communication and interaction processes. In this respect, the most frequently used words may be determined from the students who are at different ages and development levels as well as the qualified works, newspapers, magazines and related resources determined by the field experts and the word lists which should be given to the age groups in an appropriate way may be determined and the students interests and habits. Instructional programs and course materials may be prepared in the direction of the obtained data.
