EVALUATION OF AGGRESSION LEVELS OF INDIVIDUALS PARTICIPATING IN TEAM AND INDIVIDUAL SPORTS
Abstract :
The aim of the present study is the evaluation of aggression levels of individuals participating in team and individual sports in terms of some factors effecting aggression. In this study, an aggression criterion composed of 30 items and three subtests (hostile aggression, hardiness and passive aggression) developed by İpek İlter (Kiper ) was used. 240 athletes participated in the present study, and half of these participants (120- 50%) were those dealing with team sports and the other half (120- 50%) were those dealing with individual sports. A statistically significant difference was determined between the average aggression scores of players dealing with team sports and individual sports, regarding hostile aggression, passive aggression and general aggression (p 0.05). Sports create a competition between groups and individuals. A violence and aggression tendency is observed in sports requiring direct contact with the opponent compared to team sports. Generally in sports success is considered synonymous to defeating or winning and therefore control deficiency in physical behaviour serves to the aim of winning.
