Abstract :
Thinking style is the information processing method that an individual develops in his relationships with the world, his perception of the world, in reaching the intended aims and in solving problems. The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between the thinking styles of prospective physical education and sport teachers and their coping behaviors in terms of various variables. 105 students from the first, second, third and fourth grade of Physical Education and Sport Department of Fırat University participated in the study. “Rational-Experiential Thinking Styles Inventory, developed by Epstein al (1996) and tested for validity and reliability by Buluş (2000) was used to measure the participants’ thinking styles. The study investigated the average score and standard deviation values of thinking styles in terms of variables such as gender, age, class, place of birth, reasons for choosing the department, education level of parents, monthly income of the family, studying hours, the person effective in helping them decide, reasons to be encouraged to study and time spent outside school. The results of the study showed that thinking styles did not show a significant difference in terms of gender and class. However, there was significant difference in “fathers’ education level” in terms of rational thinking and “time spent outside school” in terms of intuitive thinking. As a result, when the rational and intuitive thinking styles of the participants were considered, it was observed that they could change depending on some variables.
