AN EVALUATION OF THE FACTORS EFFECTIVE IN DETERMINING SUCCESS IN PRIMARY SCHOOL PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASSES BY TEACHERS OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Abstract :
The aim of this study is to evaluate the views of teachers of physical education about the factors effective in determining the success level in physical education classes. The study population consists of primary schools in the center of Konya and some of its selected districts (Eregli, Karapinar and Halkapinar) while the sample of the study consists of 239 physical education teachersin some of the schools of the aforementioned places. The questionnaire’s reliability and applicability were tested and Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was found to be 0.91. Simple statistical techniques such as frequency and percentage (%) and Chi-Square (c) analysis were used in the assessment of the data. 0.01 and 0.05 level of significance was considered to be significant. According to the results, the factors used by teaches in the evaluation of students’ success did not show a significant difference in term of gender. The factors most widely accepted were “skills, knowledge, attitude and habits should be evaluated to the fullest extent”, school and extracurricular activities of the students should be evaluated as a whole”, each student should be evaluated according to his/her own physique and his/he participation in studies” respectively. A high percentage of teaches agree with the statements “evaluation of students should be done according to the form of observation” and “an attempt to use school facilities and tools should be taken into consideration”.
