AN EXAMINATION OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE LEVEL OF NARCISSISM AND SOCIO-DEMOGRAPHIC STATUS OF SPORTSMEN FROM VARIOUS SPORT BRANCHES

The aim of this study is to demonstrate the relationship between the level of narcissism of sportsmen from weightlifting, free style wrestling, Greco-roman wrestling, boxing and kick boxing branches and the variables of age, sport age, and the sportsmen’s biggest success. Narcissism Personality Scale which was translated into Turkish by Salim Atay in 2009 was used to undertake this study. In the analysis of the data, SPSS 15 program was used. “Kolmogorov-Smirnov” was used to determine whether the data were distributed normally and Anova-Homogeneity of variances” test was used to determine the homogeneity and the results indicated that the data had a normal and homogeneous distribution. “Pearson correlation and regression” test was used to determine the relationship between descriptive statistics and variables and narcissism. In Grecoroman wrestling, a positive relationship of a low rate was found between the sport age and exhibitionism, age and authority dimension and total narcissism. In boxing, on the other hand, a negative and a low scale relationship was found between success and exploitation and total narcissism. In free style wrestling, there was a negative relationship of a low rate in success variable while there was a positive relationship of a low rate in age, sport age and superiority dimensions.
