    THE INFLUENCE OF REGULAR AEROBIC EXERCISE PROGRAM PARTICIPATION ON THE PHYSICAL, MOTORIC AND PSYCHOSOCIAL DEVELOPMENTS OF OBESE FEMALE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

  • Abstract
    The aim of this study was to determine the influence of regular aerobic exercise program participation on the physical, motoric and psychosocial developments of obese female university students. The volunteer students who were determined as obese via body mass index (BMI) were randomly distributed to the groups of exercise (EG) and control (CG) and each group consisted of 20 students. The participants of exercise group participated in tae bo aerobic exercise program of 60 minutes, 3 days a week, for 16 weeks. Physicalmotoric measurements (height, body weight, skinfold, body fat percent, BMI, hand-leg-back strength) and psychosocial measurements (satisfaction by the body parts, social physique anxiety, physical self-perception)were administered as pre and post-test. The findings were analyzed by SPSS Statistical Package Program;descriptive statistics (percent, frequency, mean and standard deviation) were given; Wilcoxon Signed Rank and Mann Whitney U tests were used. The results of the study showed that exercise of tae bo affected physical, motoric and psychosocial features of the participants positively.
