Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to present the effects of static and dynamic balance exercises on lower extremity. Fifty one volleyball players voluntarily participated in the study. Subjects were randomly grouped as Dynamic Balance Exercise Group (DDE, n=26 ), Static Balance Exercise Group (SDE, n=25). All of the groups did exercises for 8 weeks (3d/week). While Star Excursion Balance Test was used to determine dynamic balance performance, Flamingo Balance Test was used for static balance performance. The results were evaluated with Paired Sample t Test for pre-post exercises and also Independent t Test was used to determine difference between SDE and DDE groups. Consequently, post-exercise parameters were higher than pre-exercise parameters in both groups (p 0.05-p 0.01). It was found that static balance exercises were more efficient than dynamic balance exercises in intergroup comparisons (p 0.05-p 0.01). As a conclusion, it was found that improved static balance exercise protocol increased lower extremity muscle strength and stability compared to the dynamic exercise. This result is explained as functional of the test procedure and in relation between the static balance exercises and Star Excursion Balance Test.
