Abstract :
Edge enhancement and edge detection methods which are applied to delineate the edges of the geologic structures play important role for interpreting potential field data. Derivative-based different methods are used for this purpose. In this study, Tilt angle (TIA), Theta angle (THA), hyperbolic tilt angle (HTIA), total horizontal derivative of the tilt angle (THDR-TIA), the normalized horizontal derivatives (NTHD), and the new normalized total horizontal derivative (NNTHD) methods were applied to gravity data to determine the geological subsurface model. First, generated theoretical gravity data was evaluated in order to analyse the performance of the methods. To understand effect of noise on the methods, random noise was added to theoretical data and results of the methods were investigated. Finally, the gravity data of Eskişehir and surroundings were evaluated using the same edge detection methods. When the results are examined, it has been seen that TIA, THA and NTHD methods in theoretical gravity data are relatively more successful than the other methods. It has been observed that all the methods applied to Eskişehir gravity data give results that are in harmony with the general tectonic trend of the region but, the results of TIA, HTIA and THDR-TIA methods are more compatible than the other methods.
