Abstract :
Scour downstream of hydraulic structures is an important problem in engineering. There are many experimental studies on the scour problem, and some empirical relationships were presented in the literature. The biggest challenges in the scour analyses are the requirement of a lot of time and complex hydrodynamics of the liquid-solid interaction. In this study the scour at downstream of submerged sluice flow after an apron was investigated by using 2D computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Some experimental data and relationships in the literature were used to calibrate the numerical analyses. It is observed that the variation of maximum scour versus time is exponential and dimensionless scour profiles fit to third degree curve. The relative percent error is approximately 5-10% between experimental and numerical results.
