The Effect of Precipitation Hardening on Mechanical Properties of Aluminium Alloy AA2024
Abstract :
In this paper, thermal procedure has been applied in the alloy AA 2024, which is a 2XXX series aluminum based ageble alloy, at 510 °C, 520 °C, 530 °C and afterwards the samples has been artifically aged at the temperature of 190oC for 4 and 6 hours among. Comparison of the samples each other and with the original material and the effect of the differences in their phase structure on mechanical features have been investigated.Brinell hardness and drawing tests have been applied on the samples which have been applied precipitation hardening. In dissolving region, it has been observed that strength and hardness increases with the increasing of dissolving temperature at the end of aging. Optimum thermal procedure parameters have been established for the alloy AA2024.
