Software for preparation of weekly course schedule for universities

In all academic units of a University (departments, disciplines and programs) weekly courses are prepared as a routine before each semester starts. This is very complex and time consuming job and requires a lot of paperwork and discussions due to assignment of many lecturers from various other units. These lecturers may have classes in some other units. Therefore, the schedules of these lecturers should be known. However, each unit starts planning the courses at the same time which makes impossible to know the schedules. The aim of this study is to prepare a software which will ease the preparation of weekly schedules. Thus, a software named HDP has been developed on a multiuser database by using drag-and-drop technology. The developed software s pilot study was conducted in Celal Bayar University, Faculty of Education. With the help of the software, every unit is able to prepare its own schedule by considering the schedules of the lecturers assigned from other units. The developed software infrastructure doesn’t allow overlapping on the schedule of lecturers, classrooms or branches. Moreover, it enables to combine the branches, divide them into sub-branches and also create all necessary reports about them. Thus, with the help of this program, weekly course schedule can be prepared in a very short time.
