AN INVESTIGATION OF THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY CHEMICAL TREATMENT SLUDGE APPLICATION ON BRICK MANUFACTURING IN TERMS OF PRODUCT QUALITY
Abstract :
Disposal of the chemical treatment sludge as a component of the stable road or construction materials is one of the research area that lots of studies are being carried out. For this scope, application of the automotive industry chemical sludge to the brick material as an additive is an important research area for both of the product quality and alternative disposal method. Aim of this study is the determining the effect of the sludge additive on the brick quality. For this purpose laboratory scale brick manufacturing was implemented by using original production formula, original formula plus 5% sludge mixture and original formula plus 10% sludge mixture. At the end of the experimental period no negative effect of the sludge addition was determined. Only one necessity is the determination of the original formula plus 10% sludge mixture’s behavior on the operation conditions after drying period. But determining the sludge addition step or steps is the subject of another research. Humidity of the mixture is an important factor to provide the proper mixing and homogenous mixture. High humidity contents makes mixing more complex and also additional equipment is required.
