Investigation of Some Egg and Hatching Traits of Chukar Partridges (Alectoris chukar)

This study was planned to investigate some egg and hatching characteristics of the Chukar partridges (Alectoris chukar). A total of 100 eggs were used for the determination of the egg characteristics and, 13.500 eggs were used for the hatching characteristics. Incubation was performed with 5 replications. All chicks, infertile eggs and embryo deaths were evaluated after 24 days of incubation. Egg weight was found as 22.50 g, egg length was 42.16 mm, and egg width was 31.05 mm, shape index was 73.69%, shell thickness was 0.38 mm and egg yolk color was 10.75. The rate of fertilized eggs was 85.51%, hatching yield 70.95%, hatching of fertile eggs 82.91%. Early, middle, late period embryo deaths and subcutaneous deaths were respectively found as 14.56, 0.85, 0.55 and, 1.11%. The conversion rate to chicks was 72.06%. As a result, the rate of infertile egg and early embryo deaths in the Chukar partridge was found to be high and the necessity of improvement in these parameters was demonstrated.
