Color Doppler Criteria in Varicocele Diagnosis and Evaluation of the Relationship Among the Given Criteria

Objective: We aimed to conduct this study by taking into consideration the fact that evaluation of some criteria including reflux duration, reflux speed, testicular volume and residive index(RI) along with the routinely looked-up parameters in color Doppler ultrasonography(CDUS) such as vein diameter and presence of reflux condition could yield more precious information in management of varicocele diagnosis and treatment. Material and Methods: 70 cases with a diagnosis as having left varicocele, were included in this study. Bilateral testes volumes and the largest dilatated veins were determined. In color mode, valsalva manevour were used in order to reveal whether any reflux condition occurs. Reflux duration, mean reflux speed rate and RI measurements were recoded during spectral examination. Results: There was a statistically significant difference by means of right and left testicular vein diameters, change in diameter by Valsalva manevour, reflux duration and mean testicular volume. However, there was no difference in RI comparison. We have observed that there has been a prominent decrement in testicular volume as the mean vein diameter gets larger. It was noteworthy that mean reflux speed rate and reflux duration were directly proportional to the vein diameter. There was no correlation between the vein diameter and RI measurement values.Conclusion: As a result, we suggest that reporting some additional criteria such as reflux speed rate, reflux duration and testicular volume along with routinely reported parameters like vein diameter and reflux presence in scrotal CDUS could be beneficial in management of varicocele diagnosis and treatment.
