Evaluation of Demographic Variables of Mothers Giving Birth Over 35 Years of Age

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the demographıc variables of mothers with low socio-economic status giving birth over 35 years of age. Material and Methods: A total of 150 patients giving birth over 35 years of age were recruited in the study. A study evaluating the demographic variables, places where they live, and antenatal follow-up is organized. Results: In our study, the mean age of the patients was 37.32 ± 2.2, mean parity was 2.86 ± 1.1, mean gravida was 3.57 ± 1.4, mean number of living babies was 2.45 ± 1.3 and while the youngest patient was at 35 years of age, the oldest patient was at 45 years of age. When time of hospital admission was investigated, admission at the first trimester was 57,5 % (n=86), admission at the second trimester was 29,5 % (n=44), and at the third trimester it was 13 % (n=20). Evaluation according to gestational age revealed a term delivery of 79 % (119), a preterm delivery of 10 % (n=15), and a postterm delivery of 11 % (n=16). When mode of delivery was investigated, rate of normal spontaneous vagina delivery was 55 % (82), while rate of cesarean section was 45 % (n=68). Conclusion: In district hospitals with admissions of patients of low socio-economic status, coming from rural areas, advanced maternal age necessities a controlled follow-up. Prenatal counselling and family-planning should be disseminated.
