    Evaluation of Traditional SPA Treatment Practices in Golan Town, Elazığ

  • Abstract
    Objective: The study was conducted for the purpose of specifying the features of the implementations of traditional spa treatments at the Gonan thermal spring situated in the city of Elazig. Materiel and Methods: Identification methods were used in the study. During the study a questionnaire was made by face-to-face interviews with 99 individuals who participated in the spa treatments. Results: It is detected that the 54,6 % of the individuals who were evaluated at the spa facility suffered from one of the mechanic or inflammatory musculoskeletal system illnesses and 11,1 % of them came to the spa for dermatologic disorders. The 63 % of the patients, who were evaluated during the study, have stated that they directly went to the spa before applying to a modern medicine institution for a curtain illness. The 97 % of the patients evaluated during the study indicated that they haven’t gone through a medical checkup before the spa treatment. Conclusion: Considering the balneological features of the Golan Spa, it is used for the treatment of many suitable and unsuitable illnesses. However, if planned scientifically it can be utilized for proper treatment.
