Abstract
Cantrell’s pentalogy is a rare congenital malformationwhich consists of the supraumbilical abdominalwall defect, the defect in the lower sternum, theagenesis of the anterior portion of the diaphragm, the absence of the diaphragmatic part of the pericardium, and the structural cardiac anomaly. Thiscongenital malformation has a high mortality rateof in the postnatal period. Its etiopathogenesis isnot yet certain. It is thought to be due to the lack orinadequacy of the migration of lateral mesoderm inthe early weeks of pregnancy. Five main phenotypicfindings of Cantrell’s pentalogy may not alwaysbe present in the affected cases because of the alterationsin the migration defects. The subjects diagnosedwith Cantrell’s pentalogy can be examinedin three categories based on the phenotypic features. This is a case report of a 13-week-old pregnancywhich is diagnosed with Cantrell’s pentalogy due tothe presence of cystic hygroma, ectopia cordis, omphaloceleand atrioventricular septal defect.
