Abstract
Anesthetic mumps, secondary parotitis or postoperative parotitis is a rare case of swelling of salivary glands after general anesthesia. Postoperative parotitis is a benign and usually noninfectious condition and can be seen either minutes or days after the surgery. Although the exact mechanism is unknown, it may be ocur due to the reasons of pressure increase in the mouth, loss of muscle tone of Stensen channel orifice due to muscle relaxant use, accumulation of secretion causing blockage of salivary gland channels, dehydration, and patient position during surgery. It usually heals spontaneously with symptomatic treatment. We report a case of acute bilateral parotitis that developed after 8 hours in a 57 years old obese female patient undergoing urethroscopy (URS).
