THE EFFECTS OF LEADERSHIP SKILLS AND CAREER ANCHORS ON WILLIGNESS TO MAKE CAREER IN TOURISM

Tourism provides contributions to both economic development of countries and employment, is one of the most important sector of the world. Number of people participating in tourism activities has been dramatically rising. Qualified and knowledgeable work force has been needed because of this rising in the field of Tourism. For this reason, employment of tourism students in sector has emerged quite necessary for development and future of tourism. As most of previous studies have been stated, tourism students have negative attitude towards the tourism sector. However, it has been thought that this attitude of tourism students is not only affected by sectoral structure. In social psychology, it has been widely accepted that values which people have, affects their attitude and behavior. In this study, effects of career anchors and leadership skills students have on their willingness to make a career in tourism has been researched. In scope of this research, data has been gained thorough survey application. In this context, 287 students have been included in this research. Results indicated that leadership skills have an important effect on career anchors. Nevertheless, managerial skills is the only variable affecting willingness to make career in tourism.
