Abstract
Homo Austriacus concept has gained even greater importance with the thesis that the Austrian literature differs from German literature with regards to some characteristics. Homo Austriacus means Austrian human and it assumes that Austria should separate from Germany as a country with respect to political, literary and cultural senses. Brigitte Schwaiger complied with Homo Austriacus typology and had the opportunity to reflect all of her spiritual diseases on her works within the process until her suicide. Brigitte Schwaiger, like many other Austrian authors, suffered from spiritual diseases. Exposure to her father s abuse, pressure from parents, authoritarian form of education, inability to take the pressure of the fame from an early age, writing pressure, the oppressive husband, and drug addiction made her think self murdering throughout her whole life. She committed self murder at the age 61. This study investigates the spirit biography of Brigitte Schwaiger s Fallen Lassen in parallel with her other novels taking the support from the memoirs she wrote. In some sense, the difficulties and diseases that Schwaiger suffered from in real life also supplied a good basis in her novels like the autobiography “If God is Dead”.
