Abstract
Fetrek caves are situated in the North of Torbalı Basin in the source area of Vişneli Stream. Fetrek 1 Cave is located in lower than other caves situated in the southeast slope of Kemalpaşa Mountain (Mount Nif), is an active cave and the source area of Vişneli Stream, which would be called as Fetrek Stream in the lower parts of the basin. Fetrek 2 Cave, located c.a. 30 m higher, is a fossil cave and was formed according to the old karstic base level. Both caves were formed in the Mesozoicum limestones according to the karstic and morphological base level, which became lower in Neotectonic Period especially in Quaternary during the collapse of torbalı Basin intermittently and while Mount Nif was raising up. Fetrek 1 is generally a horizontal cave while Fetrek 2 is a inclined cave. Formation of the caves have began in Mesozoicum limestones under Neocene conglomerates. Because of this, they are examples of covered karst type in terms of karstification. This study deals with formation of Fetrek caves and their enviroments.
