Abstract
Konya Plain is one of the most important plains of Turkey. The plain covers surrounding areas lying between Konya and Ereğli, Konya closed Basin approximately 1000 m contour line. The field of study which has average altitude of 1000 m is in 38° 08’-37° 06’ north latitude and 32° 20’-34° 00’ east longtitude.The climate in Konya Plain, various soil groups formed because of bedrock and differences in topography. These are: Brown, Red Brown, Lime-Free Brown, Alluvial, Hydromorphic Alluvial, Colluvial, Regosols, Vertisols, Sierozem, Salt, Alkali and Saline-Alkali soil. In the field, there are also territories which is composed in bare rock and sand dunes.The major soil problems caused by natural factors in Konya Plain are: erosion, irrigation, the shallowness of the soil, drainage problems, salinity and alkalinity. Destruction of natural vegetation, improper land use and soil pollution are the problems caused by the human foctors in the working field.This study aims to reveal the features of physical geography and soil types and problems of Konya Plain.
