  • Abstract
    Travel books, consisting of travel notes/logs and memories, give us detailed information about the relevant time and place. Seyahatname, the travelbook of Evliya Çelebi, is an imortant literary work within the Turksih Culture. It provides information about the history, culture, language, religion, architecture,ethnic structure, and geography of the places under the Ottoman dominion during the 17th century.The present study was based on “Evliya Çelebi Seyahatnamesi in Contemprorary Turkish” by Yapı-Kredi Publications (Topkapı Palace Library, Writing ennumerated Bağdat 304)” of the Seyahatname written originally in 10 volumes. The concept of climate, climate regions of the world and the climate of the places visited by Evliya Çelebi were analyzed.According to Seyahatname, the world is divided into seven climate regions as the 1st, 2nd,3rd, 4th, 5th,6th, and 7th based on the regions. The climate zone of, mountains, rivers, locations are to be stated while mentioning the localisation of countries in the world and thus determining their geographical positioning. For example, while determining the climate zone of an area, the lattitude, longest day/night time, hour and degree are taken into consideration and thus a kind of mathematical positioning is made.In Seyahatname, the travelbook of Evliya Çelebi, information about the climatic features of each climate zone and the areas visited are given. Sometimes information about the climate of the town is directly given the weather is warm, hot or cold or indirectly through information provided such as the existence of cisterns or people went out of town to pray for rain.
