Abstract
Green space and parks, with ecological, economic, social, physical and aesthetic functions, play an important role in the form of a high quality living environment. Green spaces and park areas of any city to be at the level of human needs, have a positive impact on the society’s socio-psychological structure. Green areas within city structures, can be classified in different groups according to objectives and specifications. In this study, firstly, the distribution of green areas of Şanlıurfa has been investigated at the neighbourhood level by using GIS technology. The distances between Green spaces and park areas and the amount of the area covered were then analyzed. Besides, Şanlıurfa city and developed countries was compared in term of green area per capita. As a result, research findings has shown that Şanlıurfa city has quite insufficient green areas and parks.
