Abstract
Simple compass is very old Chinese invention which uses magnetized needles as direction pointers. Magnetic needle aligns itself under the forces of the earth magnetic field. Under applied field magnetic moment motion leads to electrical motor technology in macro scale. Magnetic moments of electrons and protons, affected by applied field, leads to technologies such as MR and magnetic recording. We proposed an experiment to investigate magnetic torque and oscillation of magnetic moments under applied magnetic field. To make observations of angular motions we used simple polarization optics. Magnetic moment oscillations are explained by the classical harmonic motion under magnetic forces.
