Assessments on sustainability of tourism development in Eğirdir Lake region

Abstract
Eğirdir Lake has an important potential for nature tourism with its opportunities like; bird watching, water sports, cave tourism, paragliding and natural protected areas around it, there are many agricultural areas around the lake so agrotourism can be carried out and the holy accepted places make the lake region convenient for religion tourism. In addition to the implementations comes from past to now, in Lake Management Plan finished in 2008, in development reports of Culture and Tourism Directorate and in Kovada Lake National Park Long Term Development Revision Plan that was finished in 2008, tourism development were determined and activities were planned. In this article sustainable tourism, alternative tourism and ecotourism concepts are studied based on related literature, Eğirdir Lake Region’s development strategies regarding to the area’s tourism future are considered at length with in the framework of sustainable tourism, bottlenecks identified and some suggestions are developed to solve the bottlenecks.
