    Private forestry consulting firms and their effect on forest engineer employment

  • Abstract
    In this study, it was aimed to determine the current situation, problems, activity type and density changes and forest engineer employment effects of private forestry consulting firms which are established to realize forestry activities defined in Law No. 5531, which was enacted in 2006. For this purpose, surveys with the owners of private forestry consulting firms operating in countrywide were carried out and results were evaluated through study aim. As a result of study, it was determined that private forestry consulting firm owners solve their financial problems during establishment by own savings, prefer to work on limited and conventional forestry activities in the beginning and their main problem in forestry activities is bureaucracy. Also, average number of forest engineers employed in private forestry consulting firms per year is about 46, and this is nearly 20% of forest engineers employed by the state. When part time forest engineers working in these firms are taken into consideration, contribution of private forestry consulting firms to employment will increase. Herein, it is mostly state forestry organizations and chamber of forest engineers’ duty about improvement of activities of private forestry consulting firms and enhancement of their contribution to employment.
